Twin brothers from Brighton Iowa spent the end of their Halloween night in custody after an incident at the Sports Column in downtown Iowa City.

According to police, 20-year-old Garrett Ikerd was in the bar and was asked to leave by staff, but refused to do so. He allegedly resisted staff and got into an altercation with them, requiring staff to hold him down.

Upon arriving, Garrett’s twin brother Walker was standing outside the Sports Column. Police say he appeared intoxicated, showing bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of ingested alcohol. He reportedly intentionally punched the door of the bar and was detained.

Officers said Garrett was also was heavily intoxicated, but refused a post-arrest PBT. Staff informed police that Walker too actively fought with staff after refusing to put a mask on. Walker submitted to a PBT showing a blood-alcohol content of .214 percent.

The two were each charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. They could be sentenced to sixty days in jail if convicted.
