A house fire early Tuesday resulted in thousands in damage and injured the lone occupant.

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a kitchen fire at 1841 Hollywood Court called in at 2:48am.  The first unit arrived in about four minutes and reported heavy smoke coming from the structure. Crews were able to enter the house and get the fire under control in about 12 minutes.

The lone occupant of the home was able to get out before crews arrived. He suffered injuries in the fire and was taken to a local hospital by Johnson County Ambulance. The main damage was to the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout. Preliminary damage estimates put the cost of restoration at about $20,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the city’s Fire Marshal.
