An Okoboji man was taken into custody Monday morning after allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at a woman in a dispute over stolen property.
According to police reports, Coralville officers were dispatched to an apartment on 7th Street around 5:15am for reports of an armed suspect. They were told that the reporting party had gone to the suspect’s apartment to look for stolen items and he pulled a gun on her.
Upon arrival, the victim filled in the details. She and roommates had invited guys from a neighboring apartment over for drinks, and while they were hanging out, she noticed some wall décor missing. When the males went back to their apartment, the woman went there to retrieve the stolen items.
The woman was in a back bedroom and looking through a black bag, when one of the men, identified as 19-year-old Garrett Richardson, took an unloaded AR 15 rifle, and while standing over her, loaded a magazine, chambered a round and pointed it at her head. While doing so, Richardson allegedly said “get the eff out of my stuff.”
Officers went to the apartment where the incident allegedly took place, and while looking for the hiding Richardson found the weapon on the ground with the safety off. Richardson reportedly corroborated the victim’s description of events.
He was taken into custody and charged with Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of up to two years.
