Iowa City man faces years of prison after search warrant turns up multiple drugs

An Iowa City man was arrested Sunday on multiple warrants for drug possession.

A search warrant was executed on the bedroom of 53-year-old Josh Coustry of Broadway Street on September 16th, 2019. Officers reportedly found a prescription medication Coustry had no prescription for; marijuana, THC wax, packaging material and a digital scale; four different schedule II Controlled Substances; four different schedule IV Controlled Substances; a small amount of crystal methamphetamine; and hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Once the substances were analyzed by the DCI Crime Lab, a warrant was issued for Coustry’s arrest. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail Saturday at 6:41pm, and charged with a simple misdemeanor, 11 serious misdemeanors and one Class D felony related to the search. If convicted, Coustry faces a maximum sentence of over sixteen years in prison.
