Eight residents displaced after Coralville fire Monday

Eight residents were displaced after a fire caused heavy damage to a Coralville duplex Monday.

According to a press release from the Fire Department, crews responded to a fire at 2217 4th Street  at approximately 12:10am. It took about an hour to extinguish the fire, but firefighters stayed on the scene until about 8am. Preliminary damage estimates put the loss at around $200,000.

There were 8 occupants of the duplex, and got out safely under their own power. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. None were injured, but a firefighter was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with non-life-threatening injuries. The name and condition of the firefighter has not been released at this time.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental but is still under investigation.
