An entire class in the Iowa City Community School District is under quarantine after students were exposed to COVID-19 last week.
According to district officials, a class of less than ten students has been quarantining since Wednesday, October 8th. The quarantine is scheduled for 14 days. The students are learning remotely in the meantime.
District officials are not saying which school was involved or how many students may have been exposed. This is the first instance of an entire classroom being quarantined during the current pandemic.
According to the school district’s online COVID-19 dashboard, 68 students and seven staff members are currently COVID-19 positive. 109 students and nine staff members are currently under quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure. Since August 15th, 126 students and 43 staff members have tested positive.
Iowa City schools are currently operating under a hybrid learning model that has some students inside classrooms on Mondays and Tuesdays and others on Thursdays and Fridays. The two groups alternate Wednesdays, and learn virtually on the days they aren’t inside the classroom.
