A wrong-way driver has been arrested after police say she nearly struck several vehicles on Riverside Drive.
According to Iowa City Police, an officer observed 28-year-old Taylor Owen of Peterson Street driving her Chevy Malibu southbound in the northbound lanes of Riverside Drive near the Iowa City Municipal Airport just before 6:45 Monday night. Police say she nearly struck several vehicles before returning to the correct side of the roadway.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the arresting officer says he noticed of the odor of ingested alcohol. Owen also allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking 2-3 Busch Lights, and admitted to travelling on the wrong side of the road. Police say she showed impairment on field sobriety tests, refused a breath test at the scene, and registered a blood alcohol content of .230% on a later Datamatser test.
Owen is charged with first offense Operating While Intoxicated.
