An Anderson Texas man has been taken into custody after an alleged late-night assault that reportedly involved racial slurs.

Police say the incident occurred just after 2:30am Sunday on the 300 block of Dodge Street. 29-year-old Joshua Hale was driving his truck and came to an intersection. He reportedly exchanged words with three individuals crossing the street in front of him. The three then began walking away, but Hale allegedly got out of his truck and confronted them.

The individuals allege that Hale used racial slurs at them and punched one of them in the face. While another one of the trio tried pulling his friend away after the first assault, Hale is accused of hitting that individual in the face, causing teeth movement and a fractured bone in the mouth.

When confronted by police, Hale allegedly said he should have driven away from the incident. A witness in Hale’s truck said that Hale kept going after the victims and observed him throw the first punch.

Hale was charged with Willful Injury causing Serious Injury, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
