Leading a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy on a chase down Highway 218 early Sunday morning has led to a Tipton man’s arrest.
The Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center received a pair of reports of a reckless driver in a Dodge Ram heading southbound on Interstate 380 approaching the Forevergreen Road exit just after 12:15am. A deputy caught up with the vehicle near the Melrose Avenue exit on Highway 218 and attempted a traffic stop using his lights and sirens after noticing the vehicle all over the road and shoulder. The driver continued southbound, and was eventually stopped near the Riverside Drive/Johnson County Fairgrounds exit after two of his tires were deflated by stop sticks deployed by Iowa City Police.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Jacob Lashmit, allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, admitted to being intoxicated, and showed impairment on field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol content was measured at .142% on a Datamatser.
Lashmit is charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Eluding. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
