A suspect wanted for threatening to shoot the mother of his child was arrested by Iowa City Police Saturday afternoon after leading officers on a car and foot chase.

According to arrest records, an officer clocked 40-year-old Stevie Moore of Taylor Drive doing 37 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone southbound on Summit Street from Bowery Street just before 4:45pm. The officer followed Moore’s Chevy Impala westbound on Kirkwood Avenue and southbound on Keokuk Street, where he was again clocked at 37 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was attempted, but Moore ignored lights and sirens. Police say he sped up, went through two red lights and began passing vehicles on the right shoulder eastbound on Highway 6 before crashing near Taylor Drive. Moore then attempted to flee on foot, but was captured after a brief foot chase. One officer was injured during the pursuit, requiring stitches.

Moore told police he ran because he was wanted. He faces charges of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and 1st Degree Harassment after an August 13th fight with the mother of his child. Police say he struck the woman multiple times in the face, then threatened to shoot her if she used pepper spray to defend herself.

Moore now faces additional charges of Eluding at Over 25 Miles Per Hour Over the Speed Limit, Driving While Barred, Driving While Denied or Revoked, Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury and a parole violation. If convicted on all charges, Moore faces a maximum of eight years in prison. He has a previous conviction for attempting to elude law enforcement in Illinois in 2006.
