Charges have formally been filed against a man found with a handgun after gunshots were fired at the Town & Campus Apartments.
Iowa City Police say 30-year-old Earl McKee has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm after being indicted by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
The indictment comes after McKee was implicated as the gunman in a shots fired incident at Town & Campus on Arthur Street over the summer. The ICPD responded to multiple calls of gunfire in the area of the complex just after midnight on August 30th. First-arriving officers found multiple shell casings in the area, but no victims or property damaged.
Investigation into the incident led officers to execute search warrants at two residences at Town & Campus. Evidence was collected during the execution of the warrants, and McKee was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant through the U.S. Marshals Service.
If convicted, McKee faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
