A Cedar Rapids woman accused of beating an Iowa City convenience store clerk has been arrested.
25-year-old Jakeiya Brown of 6th Street SE was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4pm Thursday. Iowa City Police say security video from the Mormon Trek Boulevard Kum & Go shows Brown enter the store with another woman around 1:30am on May 26th. Brown is seen waiting at the front counter for a few moments, then going to the side of the counter, kicking off her shoes and going behind the counter to attack the clerk.
Brown is seen punching the clerk repeatedly before the woman with whom Brown arrived separates the two. Brown then goes after the victim again and again punches her repeatedly. The clerk is able to escape again, but Brown is seen following her and again punching her repeatedly.
The clerk reportedly suffered bruising and cuts to her face, a cut behind her right ear and a small cut on her right hand.
A further review of security video shows Brown and her associate driving an SUV-style vehicle on Mormon Trek Boulevard just before the alleged attack. The two drive past both Kum & Go entrances before reversing and entering the parking lot through the south entrance. They then park and go inside.
Because the area behind the front counter is not open to the public, Brown is charged with 1st Degree Burglary. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
