An Iowa City man accused of stealing a restaurant sign over Labor Day weekend was arrested for the offense this week.
According to police, 22-year-old Jack Dietz of South Linn Street stole the sign from the north side of the Formosa building on East College Street on September 5th around 2am. Surveillance video shows Dietz stealing the sign.
When questioned, Dietz allegedly admitted to stealing the sign. He returned it to the business, but it was heavily damaged, which he also reportedly admitted to.
Formosa estimates a replacement sign will cost them about a thousand dollars.
Dietz was arrested Tuesday and charged with third degree Criminal Mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of up to two years.
