A Chicago man was taken into custody early Tuesday after fleeing police and having a firearm on school grounds.

The incident occurred in Oxford, when 22-year-old Travon Ambrose was seen going past a sheriff’s deputy going 74 miles an hour in a 55 mile an hour zone. When the deputy tried to catch up to him, Ambrose had allegedly sped up to over 100 miles per hour.

The deputy caught up to him with lights and sirens on, but he reportedly continued to drive away. Ambrose then is accused of abandoning his vehicle and running away from the deputy. He was later located walking by the Oxford School.

Ambrose then reportedly ran onto school grounds with a loaded Glock pistol that the deputy saw Ambrose throw over the roof when he caught up to him. The deputy states that Ambrose had been given verbal orders to stop when he ran onto the grounds, but continued to run away.

Ambrose was taken into custody. He’s been charged with Eluding at over 25 miles an hour over the speed limit, Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds, and Interference with Official Acts involving a firearm. If convicted on all counts, Ambrose could be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
