An overnight rollover accident on I380 led to a fire, and a search for victims.
According to the police report, firefighters were called to the southbound portion of the interstate at Walford Road at approximately 1:50am Thursday for a vehicle roll over that was on fire with unknown victims.
After the fire was darkened down, no obvious signs of victims were noted, and a search began involving officers from Cedar Rapids, Linn and Johnson counties. They searched the ditches for possible victims that may have been ejected from the vehicle.
Shortly after the search began, dispatch advised that a male victim had approached customers at a local business asking for help. It was determined that he was the driver and sole occupant in the rollover accident and ensuing fire. Personnel went to see the victim for evaluation and further information.
The vehicle was determined to be a total loss.
