Iowa City Police have released further details on the suspicious deaths of two adults on September 15th.

Emergency responders were called to an Aniston Street address at approximately 8:35pm by concerned family members who observed 45-year-old Latoya Smith lying on the bathroom floor as they looked through a window of the residence.

Upon entry into the locked residence, Iowa City Police discovered the deceased body of Smith, as well as that of 49-year-old Floyd Rush. The subsequent investigation determined that Rush, who lived with the woman, shot Smith several times with a handgun before turning the handgun on himself. Both Smith and Rush died of their injuries.

It was further determined that the deaths occurred between 8:30am and 2pm on the 15th, and no other people were in the residence at the time of death.

Iowa City Police were assisted by the Johnson County Attorney’s Office and the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office in their investigation.
