A Colorado man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after allegedly urinating on an Oxford street and testing over three times the legal limit for alcohol.
According to arrest reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5:10 pm near the intersection of West Main Street and Augusta Avenue. A sheriff’s deputy was called to the site for an intoxicated man who urinated in the street and then sat in his car. Upon arrival, 53-year-old James Culhane of Broomfield Colorado was found sleeping in his Mazda 3 with the key in the ignition.
Upon questioning, Culhane said that he was traveling from Colorado to Detroit. He allegedly admitted to drinking, and two unopened cans of Coors Beer were sitting on the passenger seat next to him.
Culhane smelled of ingested alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech, and failed field testing. A subsequent Datamaster test reportedly showed a blood-alcohol level of .256 percent.
Culhane was charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.
