Hiding in a dumpster after fleeing a motor vehicle accident, and after arrest, has led to a Marion man faces charges after a Tuesday afternoon incident in Coralville.

According to police, 22-year-old Brady Cronan of Ridge Drive was involved in an accident just after 1pm near the intersection of First Avenue and 2nd Street. He reportedly fled the area on foot but was located nearby, hiding in a dumpster. Cronan allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, smelled of ingested alcohol, and had impaired speech and balance. After performing poorly on field testing, he provided a PBT and Datamaster blood-alcohol level of .112 percent.

Cronan also had a backpack on his person that he reportedly admitted contained marijuana. After consenting to a search, police found six clear plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance, labeled in a black marker with a brand name, “Dense Durban Poison.”

While preparing to transport Cronan to jail, he allegedly fled, handcuffed. He didn’t get far; after ignoring commands to stop, he fell and was apprehended.

Cronan faces charges of OWI first offense, a controlled substance violation, and Escape from Custody as a felon. If convicted on the charges, Cronan faces up to eleven years in prison.
