A Cedar Rapids man has been charged with assault after an alleged Wednesday afternoon stabbing at a bus stop.
According to a release from the CRPD, officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of 6th Street Southwest on reports of a woman being stabbed, and a male suspect attempting to flee the area while being pursued by witnesses.
Arriving officers found a 34-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers then located 33-year-old Jayce Baskerville, who was suspected of the stabbing. He allegedly told them that he and the woman had been involved in a domestic incident at a nearby apartment leading to the reported stabbing.
Baskerville was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury with Use of a Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of up to two years if convicted. He was also charged with violation of a no-contact order.
