An Illinois woman has been arrested after an identity theft incident from last year in Iowa City.

Police say on August 6th 2019, 32-year-old Chauneece Vance of Rock Island opened up a line of credit and purchased a dog at the Petland location on Lower Muscatine Road. A search warrant of her bank records showed the account, which had her name, address and date of birth, but another person’s Social Security number.

Further documentation from the store showed a receipt for the credit account which shows Vance as the account holder, using her Army identification, and signing her name. Using the victims Social Security number, she was able to get approved for a $2400 line of credit.

Vance reportedly purchased a dog, a puppy lifetime protection plan, and puppy homecoming supplies coming to over $2500.

The victim told police that she did not give permission for Vance to use her information to sign up for the line of credit at Petland.

A warrant was issued last Monday, September 3rd, and Vance was taken into custody early Tuesday morning. She’s been charged with 2nd degree Theft and Identity Theft, both Class D felonies. If convicted on both charges, she could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
