Coralville Police say an Illinois man allegedly went into graphic detail about how he planned to kill one of the city’s residents.

35-year-old Daniel Cook of Coal Valley had an approximately nine-year relationship with the woman, ending in 2016. Cook allegedly texted the woman several times over the next two years, but she never responded. In February of 2018 he allegedly used Facebook Messenger to send such messages as, “I’m coming back for you…and you can accept it or watch me kill myself” and “I’ll blow my brains out in front of you”, as well as implied threats toward the woman’s family.

On August 8th of this year Cook allegedly began calling and texting the woman’s phone again. She reported that Cook threatened to kill her on multiple occasions, including a text that read, “Every time I drink all I think about is putting a bullet through your f’ing eyes, and one day I’ll have enough drinks.” Police say Cook then detailed that he would shoot the woman in the chest so she had time to bleed out and look Cook in the eyes. He also again allegedly threatened the woman’s family.

Cook was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2:45 Friday morning. He’s charged with 1st Degree Harassment and 2nd Degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of three years in prison.
