Iowa City Police are investigating a report of shots fired on the city’s southeast side.
According to an ICPD news release, officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Broadway Street and Taylor Drive at 10:49 p.m. Friday. First-arriving officers found multiple witnesses pointing to the area between the two streets, which subsequently led to the discovery of over 20 shell casings in the parking lot of 1946 Broadway Street and the yard of a neighboring residence. Officers canvasing the area also found bullet holes in vehicles and multiple residences.
Officers were unable to find any victims from the incident and there are no suspect descriptions. An initial investigation has led officers to believe there was potentially opposing gunfire between two feuding groups or individuals and that there is no directed threat to the public. Although not yet found to be related, this incident marks the third confirmed Iowa City shots fired call in the last six days.
The ICPD is asking for the public’s help in providing any information related to this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275.
