Iowa City police are investigating a shots fired incident Thursday afternoon that resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while another remains at large.

Shortly after 5pm, officers from the Iowa City Police, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and University of Iowa Police responded to the area of Scott Boulevard and Washington Street on multiple reports of numerous shots fired.

Responding officers were able to take one person into custody, but at least one unidentified Black male fled the area to the east, armed with a handgun. Witnesses say that he may have been bleeding.

Investigators recovered a number of empty shell casings, coming from two different handguns. Two occupied apartments received multiple bullet holes, while an unoccupied car parked nearby was hit two times.

Charges are pending, and the Iowa City Police Department Street Crimes Action Team is currently investigating the incident. Police don’t believe there is an ongoing public safety risk at this time.
