Governor Kim Reynolds announced that one time grants of up to $10,000 will be available for businesses that had to close due to rising coronavirus rates in Johnson, Linn, and other counties in the state.

During a Wednesday press conference, the governor said the grants will help struggling businesses with cash flow during the forced shutdown through September 20th.

Last Thursday, the governor announced that bars would have to close due to an increase in virus activity among young adults, believed to be spread by packing nightspots and ignoring mitigation measures.

Black Hawk, Dallas, Story and Polk counties were also affected by the order.

The governor had previously directed the Iowa Beverages Division to impose fines, suspensions and possible revocation of liquor licenses to offending businesses. Despite complaints being investigated, no known enforcement has yet been imposed.

Reynolds said that she had hoped that the grant application would be available on line by the end of the week, but believes it should be ready after the Labor Day weekend on the Iowa Department of Economic Development website.
