An Iowa City man faces a host of charges stemming from a Sunday night reported assault.

According to police, officers responded to a call on Carroll Street just before 10pm for an unknown problem. Dispatchers could hear a female begging someone to get off of her and reported that they could hear what sounded like a struggle.

Arriving officers identified a man leaving the scene as being involved in the incident.  The man, 28 year-old Raymond Osborne, refused to provide any information about what happened.  Authorities talked to the woman involved, who told them that Osborne punched her repeatedly in the face. She attempted to leave, and he punched her again as she tried to leave by the back door.

The woman then reportedly went into the living room to call 911, but Osborne allegedly said, “I’ll give you something to call 911 about” and began to choke her after knocking the phone out of her hands.

The couple’s three children were in the room and allegedly witnessed the entire incident.

Osborne was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding airflow, Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, False Imprisonment, and three counts of Child Endangerment. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 13 years in prison.
