A University of Iowa student faces a Public Intoxication charge after allegedly slapping a woman on the butt, touching off a fight inside a convenience store.

Iowa City Police say 20-year-old Peter Brown, who lists his residence as the Sigma Chi fraternity house on North Dubuque Street, was inside the East Burlington Street Kum & Go just after 2am on August 21st when witnesses reported seeing him slap a woman on the butt.

A group of males then approached Brown, touching off a fight. Police arrived on the scene and broke up the physical altercation. They say Brown showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking alcohol and admitted to being “drunk”. He declined breath testing.

If convicted, Brown faces a maximum of 30 days in jail. A case management conference is set for November 2nd.

Brown is currently on probation for an Assault conviction from earlier this year.
