An Iowa City transient was taken into custody for violating a no-contact order and found in possession of an offensive weapon.
According to the arrest reports, 51-year-old Bryce Peterson called the protected party on Sunday at 11pm, in violation of the order, while he was staying at Prelude on Southgate Avenue. The other party says the two talked for several minutes, and when confronted by police, Peterson reportedly admitted to calling her.
Authorities found Peterson at 1:10am Monday near A Street and 3rd Avenue and took him into custody. An officer offered to roll the windows up in Peterson’s vehicle for him, and while doing so reportedly located a silver Benchmade spring-operated knife.
Peterson doesn’t meet any of the criteria to possess the offensive weapon, including it being prohibited as part of the no-contact order.
Peterson was charged with violation of the no-contact order. The Unauthorized Possession of Offensive Weapons charge is a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
