A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody Sunday night for an alleged domestic abuse assault.

The incident took place on the 9th of this month on the 400 block of Southgate Avenue around 6pm. 23-year-old Austin Cottrell of Bowling Street Southwest is accused of punching the woman several times and kicking her in the thigh. Responding officers were never able to locate Cottrell because he jumped out of the window.

When interviewed by police later, Cottrell allegedly admitted that there was some form of dispute that night and fled the apartment. The two parties have lived together and are dating for two years.

Cottrell was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 8:30pm Sunday, charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a maximum jail term of one year if convicted.
