An Iowa City woman has been charged with assault after she stepped in the middle of a fight between her boyfriend and her brother-in-law.

According to police, the incident occurred in the 200 block of North First Avenue in Iowa City after 10:30pm Thursday. The arrest report indicates that a resident, 37-year-old Krista Coe Beltz, got into an argument with her brother in law, who also lives there.

The initial argument was between Coe Beltz’s boyfriend and the brother in law, and she allegedly was trying to get in between the two men and started swinging on the brother in law. Coe Beltz reportedly swung multiple times, hitting the man at least once and causing a bump on his forehead.

The brother in law reportedly attempted to push Coe Beltz away from him and she fell over and scraped her arm.

Coe Beltz was taken into custody. If convicted on the assault charge, her first, she could be sentenced to a maximum of one year in jail.
