Officials from the City of Cedar Rapids provided an update on storm recovery efforts Thursday.
The overnight curfew of Midnight-6am remains in effect, mostly due to the significant number of neighborhoods without power.
Alliant Energy continues to work through the power outage issues, with now less than 13,000 without service. They continue to shoot for most of the resident’s power to be restored by late tonight.
Street signals should be fully restored by Saturday, providing that power has been restored to those areas. Crews will start working on pedestrian signals next week, and continue to repair and replace signage.
The Parks Department estimates that 50 percent of the tree canopy has been lost, a value of about $60 million. The larger ones provided energy savings, storm water retention and other benefits that cannot be immediately replaced just by replanting.
Residents who haven’t done so are being encouraged to subscribe to critical text and email alerts from the city at www.CRNewsNow.com. For those who need repairs and require permits, the city has online information on how to apply, and a list of where to find reputable contractors at www.cedar-rapids.org/homerepair.
