(City of North Liberty news release)
North Liberty, Iowa, August 14, 2020 — The City of North Liberty is opening the Community Center’s doors to anyone in the ICR area impacted by the Aug. 10 derecho in need of a hot shower or access to wall outlets to charge electronics.
Hours:
- Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Sunday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The North Liberty Community Center is located at 520 W Cherry Street.
Reservations are not available. To comply with social distancing, one household will be allowed in each locker room for up to 15 minutes and will be asked to sanitize the showers and used surfaces with provided cleaning products before leaving. If the locker rooms are in use, guests will be asked to wait in the recreation lobby. Shower users will need to bring their own towels, but soap and shampoo is available.
Those needing to charge a laptop, phone or another small electronic device may do so in the recreation lobby. Charging cords will not be supplied. No more than 10 people will be allowed in the lobby at a time and masks are required. All other areas of the recreation facility will remain closed.
This is a free service. The City of North Liberty recognizes that many of its residents and the residents of neighboring towns were devastated by Monday’s storm. If shower hours are extended into the week of Aug. 17, this news post will be updated.
The North Liberty Library will also be available by appointment from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, for computer use and laptop checkout. Call (319) 626-5701 to book a slot. Free Wifi is available in the North Liberty Library parking lot 24/7.
