The City of Iowa City says there are still at least six major streets closed due to Monday afternoon’s storm damage. They include:
- Rochester Avenue between 1st and 7th Avenues
- Court Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues
- Muscatine Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Avenues
- Muscatine Avenue between Dearborn and 7th Avenues
- Summit Street between Court and Bowery
- Dodge Street between Burlington and Bowery
City crews are unable to clear downed trees caught in power lines until Mid-American Energy can get to them and ensure the safety of crews cleaning up.
The streets mentioned are inaccessible to vehicle and pedestrian traffic and should be avoided due to the danger posed by the downed power lines.
Several intersections in town still have non-functioning lights, and should be treated as four-way stops. Riverside Drive continues to be dark from the VA Hospital down to the south side of the overhead railroad bridge.
The city has set up a page on their website for Storm Recovery resources; go to www.icgov.org/StormRecovery ; there’s also a list of closures on that page.
Those that have tree and brush debris are still being directed to put it out at the curb as long as it’s cut up or bundled in such a way that crews can safely clear them. You’re reminded to keep the debris off the streets.
