Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for a total of 20 Iowa counties hit by the inland hurricane Monday.
The proclamation, which includes Benton, Boone, Cedar, Clarke, Clinton, Dallas, Greene, Hardin, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Linn, Marshall, Muscatine, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story, Tama and Washington, allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of the storm.
The proclamation also activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program for qualifying residents. Up to $5000 is available for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or a maximum annual income of $43,440 for a family of three. The grants can be used for home repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. Applicants have 45 days to submit a claim.
Other aid may be available through Disaster Case Management; there’s no income limit for that service. They can be contacted through local community action agencies, or directly at www.iowacommunityaction.org.
