A Hills man reportedly made a domestic assault worse by leaving the scene while intoxicated and getting arrested.
According to police, 38-year-old James Dewitt of Aspen Lane was said to have been very impaired when he got into a physical altercation with his spouse Sunday just after 7pm. He allegedly threw a chair at the ceiling during the incident.
The woman tried to take their children and get away from Dewitt, and he reportedly grabbed his wife and ripped her shirt. She locked herself in the bedroom, and he left the scene in a vehicle.
Officers located Dewitt just outside of Hills in the vehicle. He performed poorly on sobriety tests, and had a PBT reading of .242. A subsequent Datamaster showed a blood alcohol level of .264 percent.
Dewitt has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault first offense, and 2nd offense OWI. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 months in prison.
