A severe storm with winds reported in excess of 100 miles per hour crossed the state Monday, overturning semis on the roads, downing power lines, trees and causing damage throughout the listening area.

Numerous reports of road closures and traffic issues due to the storm were reported. At one point, Mid-American Energy reported about 16,000 customers without power in the Iowa City area.

Cedar Rapids reported widespread and significant damage throughout the area, with property damage to homes and businesses throughout the city. Downed trees and power lines made many roads impassable.  Alliant Energy reports over 108,000 customers without power.

The Des Moines metro area showed nearly 128,000 had power outages.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel throughout the listening  area, as crews work to restore power and clear debris over the next several hours.

KCJJ will provide live updates as they become available.
