An Iowa City man has been charged with harassment after allegedly sending a compromising photograph of an acquaintance to mutual acquaintances.
The victim in question contacted authorities on July 19th and told them that 56-year-old Jeffery Serum of Aber Avenue had been possibly harassing by phone, text and social media. The victim said that the two no longer have a relationship due to several issues.
When the officer began investigating the issue, the victim was contacted by two mutual acquaintances who informed them that they had received a nude photograph of the victim from Serum. The victim told the police that they had sent Serum the photograph originally, but had not given permission to disseminate, publish, distribute or post the photograph.
A warrant was issued for Serum’s arrest, and he was taken into custody Monday afternoon. First degree harassment is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a maximum prison sentence of up to two years if he’s convicted.
