The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division has announced that it will take additional steps to enforce compliance with Governor Kim Reynolds’ emergency public health disaster proclamation regarding social distancing and other protocols at the state’s bars, restaurants and other food establishments.
Working in coordination with the Department of Inspections and Appeals, first offenses at businesses with an alcoholic beverage permit or license will result in a $1000 fine. Those with just a food license will get a warning for their first offense.
Second offenses for both types of establishments will result in a seven day suspension of their operating licenses for food and alcohol. And a third offense will result in the revocation of those licenses.
In a release from the ABD, Department of Inspections and Appeals director Larry Johnson said, “Although a majority of bars and restaurants are voluntarily complying with social distancing requirements, we will take these necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of Iowans.”
