Coralville Fire Department releases more details on Days Inn fire

The Coralville Fire Department has released more details about Tuesday morning’s fire at the Days Inn.

According to a news release, firefighters responded to the 1st Avenue hotel at approximately 6am. The building sustained fire damage to several rooms and smoke damage throughout. The fire was under control in about one hour and completely extinguished approximately two hours after the arrival of the fire department.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 5pm. At the time of the fire, 35 rooms were occupied and all guests got out safely under their own power. No injuries were reported. Several of the guests living at the hotel were assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire units from surrounding communities helped fight the blaze, including Iowa City, North Liberty, Tiffin, Oxford, Solon, West Branch, and Hills.

Damage was estimated at around $500,000. The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious, but is still under investigation by the fire department.
