An inmate at the Johnson County Jail faces an additional charge after bringing contraband back from a hospital visit Sunday night.

According to the deputy’s report, 31-year-old Aaron Tripses of Blackhawk Avenue in Oxford was taken to the hospital and returned at 7:20pm. A routine pat-down search upon arrival discovered a paperclip formed to resemble a handcuff key in Tripses’ breast pocket. Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution is a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term not exceeding five years.

Tripses was picked up Thursday night on a no-contact violation when he was allegedly found inside the protected party’s home with a shotgun. As a felon, he faces up to five years in prison if convicted on the Dominion or Control of a Firearm charge.

He also faces charges from a July 17th incident at the Heartland Inn in Coralville, where he allegedly attacked his wife, forced her into his car and drove her back to their residence to allegedly continue the attack. Tripses was charged with Child Endangerment, Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, 3rd Degree Kidnapping, and False Imprisonment. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

In total, Tripses could spend 30 years behind bars if convicted on all charges stemming from the three incidents.
