An Iowa City man was taken into custody after threatening to commit suicide and resisting officers during his arrest.

Police say they attempted to make contact with 24-year-old Marlon Rosales Saturday night at around 7:45pm after he reportedly was threatening to commit suicide via knife . Rosales ran from officers, who chased him and eventually caught him in the parking lot of Pizza Ranch on Highway 1.

Rosales is accused of resisting officers, kicking, thrashing and pulling away from them in an attempt to fight and flee.  One officer received a large bloody abrasion on his arm. Rosales dropped a backpack while being pursued, and a subsequent search came up with a BB gun.

Rosales was wanted on an outstanding warrant from an incident in March where he was allegedly in an argument with the mother of his three children. He’s accused of grabbing the woman by the hair, throwing her on the ground, strangling her, and kneeing her in the head multiple times.

On June 23rd, Rosales is accused of accosting the woman as she was attempting to enter her car and yelling at her. She attempted to get away to her sister’s apartment, but Rosales allegedly grabbed her by the waist and pulled her down the stairs. He reportedly prevented her going back up the stairs and kept her from getting into her car until ultimately letting her do so, with him in the back seat. Once Rosales heard that police were called, he fled the scene.

He was arrested and charged with interference with official acts causing bodily injury and carrying toy guns for Saturday’s incident. With the warrants for domestic abuse assault, domestic abuse assault restricting airflow, and child endangerment, Rosales could face a total of over 8 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
