The new radio team for the defending Super Bowl champions will have a distinctly Hawkeye feel.

While Mitch Holthus, known as the “Voice of the Chiefs”, returns for his 27th season as play-by-play commentator for Kansas City, his two new on-air partners are both University of Iowa graduates.

Former Hawkeye and Chiefs wide receiver Danan Hughes will debut as Chief color commentator this season. He played football at Iowa from 1989 to 1992, and also played for the Iowa baseball team. He began working as a football and baseball analyst for The Big Ten Network in 2008, and has worked as a pre- and post-game analyst for the Chiefs since 2014.

While Hughes joins Holthus in the booth, UI graduate Josh Klingler is the new Chiefs’ sideline reporter. Klingler was sports director at KRUI in the early 90’s, calling Hawkeye baseball and women’s basketball games. He’s also called numerous Kansas Jayhawks football and men’s basketball games, and is currently a morning show host at 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City.

The Chiefs are scheduled to open the 2020 regular season Thursday night, September 10th when they host the Texans.
