A Coralville man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Arrest reports indicate that 62-year-old Kenneth Frederickson of 7th Avenue was called in by HyVee, stating that he was intoxicated and stumbling while in the store, then got in his car and drove off.

An officer located Frederickson near South Front Street and Abigail Avenue in North Liberty, and noted that his vehicle had a brake light smashed out. When contacted, Frederickson allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, slurred his words and had bloodshot watery eyes.

After showing measurable impairment on field sobriety tests, a PBT showed a blood alcohol reading of .224 percent, and a Datamaster reading of .235 percent.

Frederickson was taken into custody and charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
