Driving recklessly overnight in a vehicle with no plates led to the OWI arrest of an Iowa City man.

Police responded to a reckless driver complaint on a white SUV that had been swerving and then pulled into McDonalds just after 3am Thursday. An officer located the vehicle, being driven by 19-year-old Jaycorde’ Hickman of Indigo Court.  The vehicle had no plates.

The officer followed Hickman, who continued to weave down the road and exceed the speed limit.

He was pulled over near Highway 6 at Broadway Street and Hickman allegedly had slurred speech, droopy eyelids, and poor balance. After exhibiting significant impairment on field sobriety tests, he stated that he had used Xanax. A PBT showed no alcohol in his system, and Hickman submitted to a urine test.

He’s been charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
