Coralville Mayor John Lundell has issued a new proclamation, asking everyone to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Called the COVID-19 Prevention Initiative, Lundell asks to follow CDC guidelines “indefinitely until substantial progress in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 virus has been declared by public health officials.”

The Governor’s office says individual cities cannot overrule the state and issue their own mandatory mask proclamation. Currently Kim Reynolds’ office is encouraging everyone to “step up” and follow safe practices.

Johnson County currently has the 5th highest confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iowa since the pandemic began.
