Iowa’s three public university presidents have issued a statement after the Trump Administration reversed a July 6th policy that would have prevented international students from staying in the country if they were taking only online classes.
A suit was brought against the Department of Homeland Security by Harvard University and MIT, who will offer classes exclusively online this fall. The city of Iowa City and over two dozen other municipalities filed attachments to the suit, which was dropped after the policy was reversed.
The statement, signed by ISU president Wendy Wintersteen, UNI president Mark Nook and University of Iowa president Bruce Harreld, said “we are gratified this guidance by ICE has been rescinded.”
The presidents lauded the more than 6000 international students who study here, saying they are valued members of the student bodies and “contribute to the richness and vitality” of the campus communities.
