A Davenport man has been charged with OWI and drug possession after crashing his car on Interstate 80.

Police say 53-year-old Garth Letts was westbound at around the 245 mile marker when he crashed a 2020 Dodge Charger into the cable barriers.  Upon contact, Letts allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, impaired balance, and a green film on his tongue.

Police say as he attempted to retrieve his wallet from the vehicle, a small baggie of marijuana was found in the center console.

Letts showed measurable impairment on field testing, and a PBT resulted in a zero percent reading. He reportedly  admitted to smoking marijuana about four hours prior to driving, and refused urine and blood testing under implied consent.

Letts was taken into custody, charged with OWI first offense and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
