The second of three reported shooting incidents in Cedar Rapids over the weekend was a deadly one.
Authorities were called to the 100 block of Curtis Street Southwest at 3:54am Sunday on a report of gunfire in the area. Arriving officers discovered a 19-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He’s been identified as Keyshawn Vondale Allers of Palo; he died at the scene despite paramedics attempts to save him.
Police are treating the incident as a homicide and are processing information as they conduct interviews. No arrests have yet been made.
Police are also investigating what they believe was another shooting when a gunshot victim showed up at a hospital to be treated on Saturday afternoon.
The Curtis Street incident was the ninth homicide in the city so far this year. Public Safety Communications Coordinator Greg Buelow says that in all of 2019 there were six murders with seven victims.
