Hancher Auditorium will soon join the ranks of the University of Iowa Athletics Department, University Housing and Dining, and University of Iowa Health Care in becoming a self-sustaining entity.
That news comes off the heels of more UI budget cuts announced Friday afternoon. As part of those cuts, the school announced it would begin a three-year process of depleting the $1.5 million Hancher receives from the General Education Fund to pay the salaries of Hancher employees.
Other budget cuts announced Friday include a 50% cut in UI President Bruce Harreld’s salary, a hiring freeze for at least 32 positions across campus, and a salary freeze for about 4,200 employees.
