A Washington Iowa man was arrested in Hills Sunday morning after being called in as a reckless driver.
According to police, 45-year-old Jody Morgan of South Marion Street in Washington, was heading northbound on Interstate 218 when Washington County Dispatch put out a request to watch for him. An officer located him in Hills after 8am. When he got behind the vehicle, Morgan reportedly sped off and drove into a lady’s driveway where she and her dog were walking nearby.
Morgan had the odor of ingested alcohol and had soiled his shorts when the officer made contact with him. He also had bloodshot eyes and mumbled, slurred speech. After failing some of the field tests administered, a PBT showed a blood-alcohol level of .049 percent. However, Morgan allegedly admitted to drinking a six-pack of beer with several shots the previous night, and to taking his prescription medication that morning.
Morgan repeatedly identified himself as James Allen to deputies, and after arrest a checkbook was located showing his true name. A subsequent check of his driving status showed it was revoked through Iowa.
A judge’s warrant resulted in deputies obtaining Morgan’s blood for drug-related OWI.
He was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, his third offense. He also faces charges of providing false ID information and driving while revoked. If convicted on all three charges, Morgan could be sentenced to over six years in prison.
