The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Solon man they say they found shirtless and shoeless on Highway 1.
Arrest records indicate 34-year-old Dustin Paulson of West Short Street also allegedly threatened a deputy with the coronavirus.
Online records show deputies were alerted to a possibly intoxicated driver on Highway 1 between Solon and Iowa City just after 2am Sunday. Officers located Paulson near the intersection of Highway 1 and Morse Road at 2:16am, standing in the traveled portion of the highway. Deputies say he was shirtless and not wearing shoes. He also allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication and was unsteady on his feet.
Paulson allegedly resisted handcuffing, pulling away and at one point turning his head towards an officer and shouting, “coronavirus, bitch!” He had to be taken to the ground to be restrained.
Deputies say Paulson kicked the door of the squad car multiple times on the way to the Johnson County Jail, bending the door frame and causing over $1,000 in damage.
Paulson is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, Interference with Official Acts and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 26 months in prison.
